How Neurodiversity Discrimination in Central Asia Exposes Statutory Gaps in Workplace Health Policy

Systematic reliance on rigid medical classifications leaves neurodivergent workers vulnerable to informal dismissals despite statutory employment quotas.

Tomiris JussupbekovaEdited by Victor Hsu

In February 2026, a public labor dispute involving a global fast-food franchise in Kazakhstan brought national attention to neurodiversity discrimination in the workplace. An employee with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who had successfully worked as a cook for four years was pressured into resigning following managerial changes. While the situation provoked widespread public criticism and an administrative intervention by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the case serves as a case study of a broader structural issue: the disconnect between post-Soviet statutory disability quotas and modern workplace health policy.
